Originality. Synthesis. Technique.

Creativity Code

The theme for this exhibit is „Creativity Code“, where young artists search for ways to express themselves in leather. They apply creative technology, new designs and improvised techniques to transition traditional  leather art into the contemporary way of life.

This exhibition presents Siauliai University Arts faculty and graduating students: Albinas Kavaliauskas, Liucija Čiutienė, Dalia Marija Šaulauskaitė, Ieva Kavaliauskaitė and Rima Lybikaitė. These artists are searching for new ways to confront established leather traditions and at the same time incorporate their own creativity. By evaluating leather art and craft situation in Lithuania, they would like to see viable leather sculpture, art objects unusual compositions and installations as models for professional products.

Leather Arts and Design at Siauliai University

Leather Art studies at Siauliai University started with graduate student Albinas Kavaliauskas in 1972. He received his leather arts diploma in 1980 and established a fine leather arts department at the university. He introduced leather as a viable, creative, and technologically advanced course. A group of students received degrees in Bachelors of Arts. The faculty participated in the art seminar „Modern Art Book Binding Trends“ and exhibited in Kaunas, Vilnius, Siauliai, Telsiai and many other galleries and museums.

They established a close relationship with „Leather Farm“, a Nederland Leather Museum. Leather Art faculty is located in a spacious area where students work toward Applied Leather Arts and Crafts, Management and Graphic Design degrees. Docent Albinas Kavaliauskas is the leading Leather Arts Curator.
